The “Wonder Kamers”, located on the basement level, were a nice surprise. A series of rooms, each with a different interactive theme (my personal favorite was the room whereas I got to smack a drum set over and over in the name of science), surround a central area in which various artifacts and paintings are kept. And when I say various I mean it-From lighting fixtures to carvings of animals to shoes. And they are all arranged by color.

Next Door is the Museon,the museum of popular science. It was a bit cluttered and covered many, many different fields. The main floor had an exhibit on the Arab World and a very neat set up about forensic science with many interactive exhibits. Unfortunately we only had an hour until they closed, so we hastened upstairs. Up there we found everything from fossils to mummies to African art to geologic samples to physics and pretty much everything in between. I regret that I didn’t have more time to spend there.  It seemed to have an eye towards children and would be a great place to take them. However we are childless and where still disappointed that we had to shuffle out of there so quickly.

Both museums are very nice. I wish I had spent more time in the Museon, but the GDH isn’t something to rush through either. Their collection is amazing and they have a lot more than “just paintings”.
